Job Summary
Dalhousie University’s Office of Advancement is responsible for all fundraising and alumni engagement activities at the institution. A growing team of over 100 professionals cultivates relationships with alumni and friends of the university and works with donors to help them achieve personal fulfilment through philanthropic investment. Dalhousie donors commit in aggregate over $50 million each year in the interest of supporting student success, scientific research, and community impact. The Senior Software Developer & Configuration Specialist will help to make a meaningful impact on social, economic, and intellectual advancement with the Atlantic Region, Canada, and beyond. Reporting to the Manager, Advancement Systems, the Senior Software Developer & Configuration Specialist is responsible for supervising the Advancement Systems group – a team of systems experts who empower and enhance Advancement’s operations through the development/integration of software solutions, administration and support of Advancement’s key database and CRM systems, and the provision of project management around these objectives.
Key Responsibilities
  • Acts as principal developer and configuration specialist, including development of initial prototypes and the end-to-end code of minimum viable products, supporting developers with code reviews and merge requests.
  • Analyzes, designs, develops, enhances, integrates, maintains and supports the Office of Advancements Microsoft Dynamics Ellucian CRM solution, leveraging knowledge of best practices and capabilities of the platform.
  • Builds, tests, and deploys web-based business applications (e.g. payment pages, registration platforms, APIs to integrate disparate applications).
  • Defines strategy for software development and technology practices to deliver consistent and reusable user-centered Platform Products. Reviews, synthesizes, and disseminates information on new initiatives and best practices in the field of Advancement Services systems and processes.
  • Works collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team of product managers, researchers, designers, and business professionals in an agile development environment.
  • Supervision/management of systems team and project-related staff. Acts on behalf of the Manager, Advancement Systems as required and perform other duties as assigned.
Note
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in computer science or related filed, plus approximately three to five years’ of related experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • 1+ years of Microsoft Dynamics Customer Engagement application development experience (CRM).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in developing, deploying, customizing and integrating solutions with Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
  • Experience in Agile ways of working including daily standups, working in sprints, managing features and product backlogs in tools such as Jira, delivering minimum viable products and delivering continuous improvement.
  • Good analytical, problem solving, written and oral communications skills, as well as organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in system design, workflow analysis and systems development methodologies.
  • Effective customer relationship, confident client facing and interpersonal skills.
Assets
  • Familiarity with payment processing platforms, digital identity and single sign-on (SAML, OIDC), mobile application (cross platform Android/iOS) development and cloud-native technologies (Azure, AWS, GCP).
  • Professional certification(s) in Dynamics 365 CE, Power Platform & Azure certifications.
