Job Summary
Enterprise Application Services (EAS) department in Information Technology Services (ITS), provides services to support and improve university administration. This includes maintaining existing and implementing new administrative systems, as well as upgrading and supporting a variety of information technology platforms. Reporting to the Associate Director, Business and Application Solutions, and in conjunction with other System Analyst(s) on the team, the incumbent performs duties of senior technical staff member in the software development unit of EAS.
Key Responsibilities
  • Work within established time frames to design and develop software solutions that meet functional and technical specifications as prepared by clients (functional users) and systems analysts.
  • Working directly with clients, with guidance from the management team and team members, devise and implement solutions to meet the IT requirements of the University.
  • Carry out programming tasks as assigned.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation relating to all modifications and newly developed software applications.
  • Acquire and maintain a strong working knowledge of administrative systems, as well as interfaces to external systems.
  • Supervise and oversee the work and coordinate the efforts of up to 6 professional staff within the department, on a project basis.
Note
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or similar discipline with minimum three years’ of related experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Experience in programming in relational database environments using SQL, PL/SQL and Oracle RDBMS.
  • Programming experience with Java and Java Enterprise Edition.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, written and oral communications skills, as well as organizational skills.
Assets
  • Experience with the Eclipse IDE, IntelliJ IDEs is an asset. Additional knowledge of web-based development technologies, HTML5, JavaScript and XML.
  • Experience with UNIX operating systems and shell scripting.
  • Additional assets would include: Ellucian Banner ERP, Page Builder, and knowledge of web-based system architectures.
