About the Organization | The Qanittaq Clean Arctic Shipping Initiative (www.qanittaq.ca) is a partnership between academic and Inuit organizations to address and respond to concerns about the growth in Arctic shipping and related environmental impacts on Northern communities. With a 7-year funding commitment from the Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF), Qanittaq will develop the knowledge base required for more sustainable, more efficient, and safer Arctic shipping, and the evidence to support the necessary policy changes. It will combine Inuit knowledge with the exceptional facilities and resources provided by academic institutions to model and test new technologies, develop specialized expertise and prepare highly qualified personnel (Inuit and others) with the capacity to respond to future challenges. Dalhousie University is a key partner in the Qanittaq Initiative, led by Memorial University and the Inuit Circumpolar Council (ICC – Canada). Researchers with the Marine and Environmental Law Institute (MELAW) with the Schulich School of Law, as well as the Department of Industrial Engineering with the Faculty of Engineering, will focus on shipping, ocean and environmental law and Indigenous and Aboriginal law in the Artic context. |
Job Summary | Reporting to Dalhousie University’s Co-Principal Investigators (PIs), the Project Administrator will support Dalhousie University’s participation in the Qanittaq Clean Arctic Shipping Initiative by coordinating and facilitating research activities, supporting knowledge mobilization, collaborating with research partners, and managing project personnel and financial resources, to achieve the objectives of the Initiative. |

Note | The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines. Occasional local and national travel is required (approximately 1-2 times per year). Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to meet operational requirements. |
