Job Summary
The Centre for Collaborative Clinical Learning and Research (C3LR) offers an innovative opportunity for multi-health discipline interprofessional collaboration and educational opportunities through the use of simulation, interprofessional learning, and innovative teaching strategies. Reporting to the Manager of IT Services, MedIT, the Simulation Technology Support Specialist will support the development of critical diagnostic and patient care skills through the medical simulation technologies in use at the Centre for Collaborative Clinical Learning and Research (C3LR) in the Collaborative Health Education Building (CHEB) and other campuses across the Maritimes.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support enterprise medical simulation education automation, evaluation, and student-assessment software and all use of it by faculty and staff to support collaborative, simulation-based educational activities for learners.
  • Configuration and integration of simulation education technologies with other IT/AV technologies in use at the CHEB, including cameras, microphones, servers, workstation computers, control systems, networks, databases, and other systems or platforms used in delivering health professional and medical education.
  • Provide technical support to staff and faculty during simulation events. Ensure smooth functioning of equipment; configure, setup, run routine timely processes, system testing, software, and equipment maintenance. Troubleshoot technical problems quickly and effectively.
  • Administer and support the use of the simulation education enterprise software systems and related simulation education technology devices including configuration, updates and maintenance. Provide general technical support for other classroom technologies as required.
  • Provide training and consultative services for the use of simulation education technologies, including contributing to user guides and associated training materials. Work with faculty and staff to determine how simulation education technologies can improve simulation programming.
Note
The schedule for this position will include Tuesday-Saturday shifts on a rotating schedule, 32.5 hours per week.

This position requires frequent movement as work is spread out between multiple buildings and floors as well as requiring the movement of equipment ranging from 25–50 lbs and climbing ladders to repair and replace equipment.

Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.

Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in a related technology field plus approximately three years’ applicable related experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills with the demonstrated ability to work in high pressure, time sensitive environments while managing multiple, competing priorities.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) certification or completion of certification within 36 months from date of hire.
Assets
  • Experience in simulation-based education methods and/or student assessment.
  • Experience providing IT support services for health and medical education professionals.
  • Knowledge of, and experience working with, enterprise level technology and IT systems and server infrastructure
  • Knowledge of, and experience working with, complex network architecture and VPNs.
