Job Summary
Serving Maritime Canada, the Faculty of Medicine enables excellence in health care through education and research programs in partnership with government, health authorities and health care providers. The Office of Community Partnerships and Global Health takes a collaborative approach to build leadership within the Dalhousie community to advance diversity, equity, community engagement, service learning, planetary health, global health education and international partnerships. Reporting to the Director, Office of Community Partnerships and Global Health, the Associate Director is responsible for providing strategic advice on issues, policies and vision for the equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA) portfolios to the Director of the Office of Community Partnerships and Global Health and the Associate Dean, Serving and Engaging Society.
Key Responsibilities
  • Actively research and recommend appropriate strategies and frameworks to achieve EDIA goals; this will require collaboration with colleagues from a variety of units, both academic and administrative.
  • Oversight of pathway programs including PLANS, Indigenous Health and Francophone Health
  • Organize EDIA committees including Anti-Oppression Subcommittee, Social Accountability, Departmental EDIA Leads.
  • Ensure operational activities are within the established accreditation and professional standards and comply with the Faculty of Medicine programs policies and procedures.
  • Manage two budgets through special purpose accounts include preparation of detailed financial reports.
  • Manage a team of two Program Managers, 2 temporary/term and 2 student employees.
Note
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree plus five years’ of experience in a related field (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate teams to achieve organizational goals, including a track record of developing team members through coaching and mentoring
  • Proven ability to develop and manage complex budgets aligned with organizational objectives
  • Proven ability to build relationships and foster collaboration and partnerships with community to achieve common goals or address challenges
  • Ability to problem-solve, demonstrate ability to take initiative, and meet deadlines
Assets
  • Experience in a university environment.
  • Knowledge of medical education programs and/or academic health care environment.
  • Existing relationships and demonstrated ability to work in and with African Nova Scotian and/or Indigenous communities as well as demonstrated ability to leverage those relationships in a professional context.
