Job Summary
The Communications, Marketing and Creative Services (CMC) team is responsible for stewarding and enhancing the reputation and awareness of Dalhousie University through brand leadership, communications, marketing, public relations, community and stakeholder relations, creative services, media relations, issues management and crisis communications. Reporting to the Director, Integrated Communications & Publications, the Strategic Content Manager is a member of the Integrated Communications & Publications team, supporting functions including but not limited to Dal News (the university’s institutional news website), development of core institutional narrative and key messaging, internal memos to faculty/staff and students, DAL Magazine, and overall strategic communications.
Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute regularly to the online Dal News, providing ongoing content and strategic analysis of existing editorial direction when considering its continuing evolution.
  • Act the unit’s leader for Editorial/Content Calendar development, management and execution across the team.
  • Facilitate content submissions from Faculties and units for the Today@Dal newsletter. Develop original newsletter content focused on the faculty and staff experience, helping to build employee pride and connection.
  • Develop copy for advertising initiatives on behalf of the university and/or its faculties, departments and business units as required, including web copy where relevant.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the university’s annual corporate strategic communications plans (most specifically in relation to internal communications).

Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree preferably in Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or a related discipline, with five years’ experience.
  • Superior communications (written and verbal) with demonstrated experience in public relations writing and editing.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility principles.
