Job Summary
Scholars in the Faculty of Management come from diverse disciplinary backgrounds related to the public and private sector studies. They come together to address the world’s complex social and economic challenges through cutting edge research that combines perspectives from social and information science, and business disciplines.The Faculty has been recognized for its innovative, values-based approach to management research and education. Reporting to the Associate Dean Research, the Research Officer will support the Faculty’s researchers in preparation of Ethics Board submissions and other post-award activity, as well as support research students through the Faculty’s course-based research ethics process and through research applications.
Key Responsibilities
  • Work with individual researchers (faculty members and research graduate students) on the preparation of submissions to Dalhousie’s Research Ethics Board. Manage a library of guidelines, policies, procedures, and other guidance documents related to research ethics to guide preparation.
  • Facilitate support for faculty members in post-award interactions with research units across Dalhousie and prepare guidance based on lessons learned from such interactions. Liaise with relevant units at Dalhousie to ensure consistency in process.
  • Support graduate students’ applications to the Tri-Agency Master or Doctoral Awards in collaboration with their supervisors and other program supports.
  • Manage the Faculty’s delegated student course-based research ethics process, including reviewing and providing feedback to students for Faculty level submissions. Serve as liaison between the Faculty and Dalhousie’s Research Ethics Board to ensure consistency and transparency of processes.
  • Coordinate the research team’s portfolio related to communications, recognition and celebrating research successes, including maintaining research related metrics, preparing narrative descriptions of research contribution, impact and partnerships, and identifying available awards and eligible nominees.
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in a field relevant to the disciplines represented in the Faculty of Management plus at least two years’ relevant experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Experience working in a supportive role in a research-intensive environment including experience working with research funding applications, research ethics requirements and with organization level tracking systems related to research accomplishments.
  • Strong client service, interpersonal, and communication (verbal, written and presentation) skills.
  • Excellent initiative, and organizational and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in commonly used office software packages, databases, and on-line collaborative and search tools.
  • Research-based Master’s degree in a field relevant to the disciplines represented in the Faculty of Management.
  • Experience working in research-intensive environments related to a discipline represented in the Faculty of Management.
