Job Summary
ShiftKey is a non-profit organization based in the Faculty of Computer Science at Dalhousie which is responsible for extensive extra-curricular programming for students interested in Computer Science and Technology. Reporting to the Manager of ShiftKey Labs, the Event & Communications Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the organization’s busy event calendar, managing the marketing and communications plan for events, and offering administrative support to the Manager.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support the planning of events through the coordination of communications, schedules, venue, catering, and supplies for attendees, which include members of the ShiftKey student team, students, faculty, staff, sponsors, other invitees.
  • Manage various projects, including the planning, organization and execution of events and programs.
  • Represent ShiftKey at some relation-building events (networking events, conferences, student engagement activities, etc.).
  • Develop and maintain ShiftKey communication and marketing in the form of online content, branding, social media and web content.
  • Coordinate with the Faculty of Computer Science Communications and Engagement team to ensure consistency and amplification of ShiftKey events and storytelling.
  • Support the ShiftKey Manager in administrative tasks, such as program budgeting, data collection and management, etc.
Note
Occasional work on evenings and weekends is required.

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
  • Business/Office Administration program with one to three years’ experience in a similar role (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • A high degree of organizational skill, interpersonal acumen and problem solving ability.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as experience in communications and marketing and social media content creation.
  • Must be able to work both independently, as well as part of a team, and be proactive.
Assets
  • Demonstrated event planning and marketing experience.
  • Content creation experience.
  • Experience working with students.
