Job Summary
Student Affairs is a collection of integrated units that collaborate with faculty, staff and students to enhance the student experience. We promote an inclusive, holistic and student-centric approach to learning and academic success and act as a professional resource in the delivery of evidence-based student enrolment, wellness, development and academic support programs and services. Reporting to the Director, Residence Life, this position plays a lead role in supporting the strategic priorities of Student Affairs and Residence Life. The Residence Programming Manager supports positive student engagement and community building in residence as well as addressing emerging issues that impact residence students on the Halifax campuses
Key Responsibilities
  • Develops and administers programming curriculum to ensure holistic programming outcomes in residence. Recommends changes and adjustments to model/program delivery to Director, Residence Life and residence life management team.
  • Develops and communicates learning outcomes and expectations to residence life student leaders and supports the activities of student committees in an administrative and advisory capacity.
  • Compiles and tracks all event statistics in order to complete year-to-year trend analysis: attendance, number of events held, number of events planned, etc.
  • Responsible for all aspects of personnel management for 40-50 Community Mentors including hiring, supervision, evaluation, and discipline/termination.
  • Responsible for the management of programming budgets for all residence life staff including expenditures and funding allocations.
  • Creates communications and marketing plans for residence wide programs, events, and campaigns. Identifies opportunities to communicate key messages to students on issues of importance to student success, community and well-being.
Note
Availability to attend programming and events on evenings and weekends is a requirement of this role.

Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.
Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree with five years’ experience in a residence life/housing department within a post-secondary educational institution or student affairs focused unit (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Demonstrated success in taking initiative and moving work forward through effective leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Proven ability to design and deliver workshops and sessions to broad audiences.
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and supervise student staff.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Assets
  • Project management training.
  • Experience in using logic models to support the delivery of programming outcomes.
